Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of stimulating points around the body to give relief from pain resulting from injury or disease and to encourage healing by re-balancing systems within the body.

Acupuncture points may be stimulated in a variety of ways:

These include the use of needles, moxibustion (the burning of the dried plant common mugwort, either on the needles or over the point), diodes (an infra-red energy source), lasers, acupressure ( a pressuring form of massage), with TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), and by massaging with special "cups" or "spoons".

A variety of conditions can be treated with acupuncture, these include all types of musculo-skeletal problems such as muscle and ligament injuries, joint injuries, back and neck pain and muscle
tightness/spasm. Medical conditions such as headaches and migraines, relief of pain following shingles, and allergies (hay-fever, sinus problems) can be treated.

Skin disorders like acne, psoriasis, warts, or respiratory disorders such as asthma, disorders relating to women's health such as pre-menstrual syndrome, morning sickness or pain relief during labour; the easing of symptoms associated with addiction, such as smoking and weight loss, depression, anxiety and insomnia can be treated with acupuncture.
